Access Bank Gambia announces the appointment of Mr. Stephen Ahwakyi Abban as its new Managing Director, effective October 1, 2021. He takes over from Mr. Ayokunle Abraham Olajubu who was Managing Director of the Bank since August 1, 2018.
His appointment follows the successful nomination and regulatory approval received from both the Board of Directors and the Central Bank of Gambia respectively.
Stephen has over two decades of diversified banking experience working across various departments of banking including Information Technology and Retail Banking. He has built a high pedigree as an astute banker and will drive the continuation of the Bank’s strategy of becoming one of Gambia’s leading Banks.
Until his appointment, Mr. Abban led the Bank’s entire Retail Banking business in Ghana, where he provided strong leadership in building and overseeing key digital and financial inclusion initiatives for business success and growth.
Commenting on the appointment, the Board Chairman of Access Bank (Gambia), Mr. Papa Yusupha Njie congratulated Stephen on his new appointment. He said: “We warmly welcome Stephen and look forward to providing him with full support from the Board. He brings with him excellent leadership qualities, breadth of knowledge and deep insights of banking, which will be useful in driving the growth of the Gambia business”. Mr. Njie also took the opportunity to thank Mr. Olajubu for his service during his tenor as Managing Director.
